Grade 6 Junior Biologist course at the Aquarium
The Junior Biologist Course is for Grade 6 learners with a keen interest in marine life and conservation, offering experience in the world of marine biology.
This fun 4-day course is based on the amazing diversity of life found along the two special oceans around South Africa. It also takes a closer look at two aquatic ecosystems, with a focus on human impacts. Students learn about the adaptations and characteristics of animals such as octopuses, turtles, and sharks. We also include an excursion to the rocky shore where students get to explore these weird and wonderful animals in their natural habitat. As a bonus, the students are given a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes area of our Turtle Conservation Centre.

Chanelle Naidoo is born and bred in Cape Town. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Cape Town, and an honours degree in geography from UNISA. Most recently she also qualified as a teacher by completing a postgraduate diploma in education. Before working at the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation, her previous employment was working as people and environmental officer for the City of Cape Town, and as environmental educator at Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. She joined the Aquarium in 2014 as an assistant educator. Many of our school groups, that visit our environmental education centre, are greeted by Chanelle’s friendly face. She teaches the daily lessons we offer in our discovery centres. She also coordinates many of the primary school and early high school courses. Many will already know Chanelle, especially if you have completed our Junior Biologist course, or the Ocean ‘Fun’atics online series. Chanelle enjoys interacting with our younger ocean enthusiasts and has a passion for environmental education.
During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her little daughter and other family outside in nature. She tries to also keep fit by running, walking or doing yoga. When not tending to her newly established veggie garden, Chanelle also likes learning new things. A new challenge is always welcome!
