Education & Awareness

Smart Living Course (Grade 7)

Meet the teacher

Anzio Abels is the Smart Living Outreach Educator at the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation. He studied Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at the University of the Western Cape, with electives in Environmental and Water Sciences. He has a keen interest in the natural world and the human-nature interaction, with a focus on conservation and environmental awareness. His long history of working and volunteering in the field of nature conservation, has led to being part of research projects studying various animals, from Heaviside’s dolphins to velvet worms. He has basic skills in falconry and animal husbandry, from working as an animal handler at a reputable raptor and wildlife rehabilitation centre. Teaching about the conservation and sustainable use of our natural resources, and raising awareness about the importance of our natural ecosystems, is what he enjoys the most. Other than education work with the Foundation, he is involved in the Scouts of South Africa, where he is further involved in youth development.
