Become a turtle rehabilitation intern

The Aquarium Foundation facilitates a world class turtle rehab facility within the physical space of the Two Oceans Aquarium. Our goal is to rescue every stranded turtle on the Western Cape coastline, offer it the best life support and medical/nutritional care, to eventually release it back into the ocean. Furthermore, we want to maximise our opportunities to inspire, to educate, to contribute to the academic and scientific community, and to have strong collaborative partnerships.

As a part-time or full-time, unpaid turtle intern you could spend anywhere from three to 12 months as part of our team and work with anywhere from 20-200 turtles of all shapes, sizes and species.

Some of the tasks you may find yourself doing are:

  *   Food preparation and feeding turtles

  *   Sterilizing and cleaning tanks, equipment and rehab space

  *   Assisting in medical procedures

  *   Implementing enrichment practises

  *   Sharing information with members of the public

  *   Occasionally dressing up as a turtle and dancing in random parts of Cape Town

We invite people of all ages and backgrounds to apply for this position and gain invaluable experience working with these endangered species.

If you are interested in applying for an unpaid internship at our turtle rehabilitation facility, please fill in the below online form. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR INTERNS, BUT ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS SO THAT WE CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU ONCE WE NEED SOME MORE HELP AGAIN.
